‘I made several of these large cockerels, and these were among the first. Designed to sit on a mantelpiece or a shallow shelf, they have presence without demanding depth. This example (one of two) ‘leant’ rather acutely in its high firing — an effect visible in the photographs — the sculpture is stable and reads well against a wall.
Never exhibited, this piece is a good opportunity to add a slightly quirky, characterful work to a collection at a fraction of its usual price. Perfect for someone who appreciates handmade ceramics with a little imperfection and personality. ‘
