A short video about the sculpture, “Sing a Song of Sixpence”
Every year at the ‘Potfest’ Fairs in the UK, all the exhibitors are set a challenge. They are asked to make a piece of work in clay inspired by a title set by the organisers. The results are exhibited at each of the various Potfests across the UK for the public to see and enjoy. The 2023 title was ‘Nursery Rhymes’…this is my response…’Sing a Song of Sixpence’
‘Sing a Song of Sixpence’
Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?
The king was in his counting house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlour,
Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose.
And shortly after that,
there came a little wren,
As she sat upon a chair,
and put it on again.
